WithCommunity Artist Program

You’re here because a community you’re part of invited artists to participate.

We’re building collections of prints, posters, cards, and other products rooted in real places, by real artists, and for real community groups. When products using your work sell, you earn royalties—and a portion of each sale supports the community that helped share it.

This is also a way to contribute to something ongoing. Your work can be part of evolving ideas, collaborations, and projects that grow out of the community over time.

How Your Work Becomes Products

We adapt selected artwork into a range of products and formats.

After your work is accepted, we:

  • Prepare it for print (color correction, sizing, and formatting)
  • Develop it into formats like prints, posters, cards, and other products
  • Apply layout or design systems where needed (for example, poster-style formats with typography)
  • Handle production and fulfillment through trusted print partners

These products are placed into collections connected to community partners—groups that share the work with their audience.

Your work may appear:

  • As a standalone piece (such as a print or poster)
  • As part of a community-based collection
  • In multi-artist formats (such as calendars or themed sets)

We curate how artwork is grouped and presented so that pieces fit together visually and conceptually. (We don’t combine artworks into a single image or alter authorship.)

When your work is included in a partner collection, that community helps drive visibility—and receives a share of proceeds from sales they generate.

Getting Started

  1. Create a WithCommunity account and fill out the Call For Artist form. Register to participate. Log into your WithCommunity dashboard and fill out the Call For Artist form. If approved as an artist, you’ll sign artist agreements on the dashboard.
  2. Submit Your Art: If approved, we will grant you artist rights. Use our online form to upload your artwork and basic details. We don’t want high resolution print files, just good enough to review.
  3. We Review For Fit: We look at how your work might fit current or future collections. We are always bringing in new community partners and collections, so we will be evaluating a wide range of styles.Accepted work may be:
    • Included in WithCommunity online stores
    • Adapted into products such as prints, posters, cards, calendars, and similar formats
    • Used in posts or campaign materials
    • Combined with other creative elements where appropriate
  4. Upload High Resolution Files: If accepted, we will request the high resolution files for you to upload.
  5. We Turn Selected Work Into Products: When we move forward with a piece, we:
  • Prepare files and layouts
  • Create product listings
  • Handle printing, shipping, and customer service
  • Track which artists and community partners are connected to each sale

You create art and get paid when products using your work sell.

What Art Can You Submit?

You may submit any artwork that is original and fully owned by you, including:

  • Paintings
  • Drawings
  • Illustrations
  • Digital art
  • Photography
  • Mixed media

It can be new work or existing work, as long as you created it and hold the rights needed for us to turn it into products.

Before You Submit

  • Make sure the artwork is your original work and you have the rights to submit it for merchandise.
  • Understand that this is a royalty-based program: you are paid when products using your art sell.
  • For full details on rights, exclusivity, and royalty calculations, please review the Artist Royalty Agreement.

How We Collaborate With Artists

You keep ownership of your work—we handle production and sales, and share the revenue, with clear terms for how your work is used.

What We Handle

WithCommunity manages:

  • Product setup
  • Production and fulfillment
  • Storefront and checkout
  • Customer support
  • Tracking and reporting

How Your Work Is Used

You retain ownership of your original artwork.

If your work is selected for products, we receive an exclusive merchandise license for that use.

Your work may be cropped, formatted, adapted, or combined with other elements for products, promotion, or online presentation.

How Net Sales Are Shared

When accepted work is used in products and those products sell, net sales are generally shared:

  • About one-third to the artist
  • About one-third to the participating community partner to support its ongoing outreach efforts
  • About one-third to WithCommunity

Details are defined in our Artist Royalty Agreement.

How The Money Flows

When a product that uses your artwork sells:

  1. The customer’s payment first covers things like taxes, printing, shipping, and payment processing.
  2. A portion goes to the Community Partner (for example, the social media group or online community that helped share the collection), so their outreach work is supported when their people buy.
  3. What remains after those pieces is then split 50/50:
  • Half goes to Openhill to run the program.
  • Half is set aside as the Artist Share.

Your royalty is a defined percentage of that Artist Share, depending on how your art is used:

  • Tier 1 – Solo Use (when your art is ready to go and is the main image)
    • During an exclusive period, you receive 100% of the Artist Share for that product.
    • After that period, your share is reduced to 50% of the Artist Share (25% of the amount that remains).
  • Tier 2 – Co-Created Use (your art plus substantial added design)
    • If you submit art that needs significant polishing that requires us to bring in other artists, during an exclusive period, you receive 50% of the Artist Share.
    • After that period, your share is 25% of the Artist Share (12.5% of the amount that remains).
  • Tier 3 – Compilation Use (calendars, books, multi-artist products)
    • The same 50% Artist Share is pooled and divided among all contributing artists and creative contributors for that product using a reasonable method.

The full formulas and timing are spelled out in the Artist Royalty Agreement, but this is the basic shape.

Exclusivity and Evaluation

Here’s a short overview of the agreement. The full Artist Royalty Agreement governs your participation and includes all terms and details.

60-day Evaluation Window

For 60 days after you submit a piece, you agree not to put that same artwork on other merchandise that would compete with this program.

That short window gives us space to evaluate your work and plan collections without confusion about where the art is going.

Exclusive Merchandise License

When a product using your artwork first goes on sale, an initial three-year exclusive merchandise period begins. Exclusivity continues after those three years unless the artwork qualifies for and completes the release process in the agreement, or Openhill agrees in writing to release it.

After the initial three-year period

Exclusivity does not automatically end after three years. After that point, if fewer than five qualifying units of your artwork have sold during the previous 24 months, you may ask us to convert the artwork to non-exclusive status.

If you make that request, Openhill has 90 days to continue developing, promoting, or selling the artwork. At the end of those 90 days:

  • If at least five qualifying units have sold during the previous 24 months, the artwork remains exclusive.
  • If fewer than five qualifying units have sold, the artwork becomes non-exclusive.

If the artwork becomes non-exclusive, you may sell or license merchandise using it elsewhere. Openhill may also continue selling existing products and create future products using the artwork under a perpetual non-exclusive license. Your royalties on Openhill sales then move to the applicable non-exclusive rate. You still own the underlying artwork and may continue to display it or sell the one-of-a-kind original.

Who Runs This

This art program is managed by Openhill LLC. Openhill runs the production, store infrastructure, tracking, and royalty system for a network of participating sites. One of the first sites in that network is WithCommunity, which works with social media group admins and other Community Partners to feature art that sparks conversation and supports their work.

When you participate:

  • Your contract and royalties are handled centrally through Openhill.
  • Your art may be shown and sold on WithCommunity and other Openhill-affiliated channels.
  • You do not have to manage separate deals with each individual site or community.
